Letting life lead is woman motorcycle rider – Jaclyn Heyen’s – motto of late. She lives on the road with her home in tow behind the Harley-Davidson she bought in 2007. She calls her Harley “Blue”. For two and a half years, home has been the teardrop trailer her Harley tows. She is learning to live simply, overcoming depression, and living life to the fullest. Jaclyn is empowering women to follow their dreams and show them – anything is possible.
Jaclyn Heyen, MM., is a multi-media artist and public speaker originally from Seward, Nebraska. her creative work is based on her experiences on the road. Life on the road started at the end of October 2012 from Rosendale, New York. Though having graduated with a Masters of Music, Jaclyn was underemployed and knew that attaining any kind of retirement was unrealistic. She decided, “If I have to work for the rest of my life, I am going to live as close to retirement as possible.” Jaclyn does not receive any government assistance but has learned to live off of very little income. Jaclyn works from the road as a marketing consultant for assorted companies nationwide.
Jaclyn’s Work – BlueRoad
Jaclyn’s recent work is called BlueRoad- a series of multi-media recordings and writings about her life a woman motorcycle rider on the road with her Harley and Teardrop Trailer. These recordings and writings document her journey to living a minimal life and finding her authentic self.
Her masters’ thesis – Theorizing Soundwalls: Listening Within the Noise- and creation of Tinny Scoots, an audio controller built out of the body of a scooter, opened up the need to share her experiences on her motorcycle. Jaclyn’s research has focused on the use of music technology within a therapeutic environment. She has worked on the Adaptive Use Musical Instruments Project from the Deep Listening Institute along with using unique ways of working with music technology that involve motion tracking and/or unique interfaces. She also has a deep interest in the soundscape and sound wall and how one listens and defines themselves through noise.
These goals guide her BlueRoad project:
- Living in a Little Guy Rascal trailer which can be pulled by Blue, her Harley-Davidson
- Living on public land or in work-camping positions.
- Digging deeper into the self.
- Leaving behind the life of want and need to a life a happiness.
- Searching for the “Invisible Woman”
- Learning how to be self-sustaining.
Jaclyn’s is further guided by her desire to find her authentic self and love who she is and live without the influence of the media. She shares stories of the “Invisible Woman”. Stories of women who have done amazing things but have gone unseen and live a life without limitations.

Riding her motorcycle, year round throughout the United States has brought her through a multitude of experiences. From East to West she’s endured tropical storms, snow and freezing temperatures while pulling a trailer and without back up. Jaclyn exclaims- “I do everything a man does on a motorcycle but I pull a trailer.”
By living simply Jaclyn has discovered many keys to her success allowing for smaller time constraints, saving clients’ money and allowing for more time to pursue her goals. She is living life to the fullest and is now able to control her depression without medication or therapy. Jaclyn’s goal is to laugh every day for the rest of her life.
“My life isn’t for everyone but it works for me. I may not have a lot of money but I am rich in people, scenery and life”, says Jaclyn.
