Great news within the 2010 World Supersport competition--Italian Paola Cazzola will compete next year! This means she will be the first woman to compete for a full season. Paola is 33 years young, from old Vicenza Italy and has been offered a ride in this important, very competitive championship.
Other than wild cards achieved firstly, years ago, by German Katja Poensgen, then last year in USA only by Canadian Marie Joseè Boucher and American Melissa Paris, this marks another step forward into the motorsport arena for women. And Paola is just the girl for the task!
Paola is known in Italy as the “Valentino Rossi in pink” and has an astounding success record behind her. She won the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Italian Women’s Championship and competes outside of this championship in classes namely filled with men.
This past June, you may have read our article where she won the Vallelunga race in the R6 Metzeler Cup group--beating in a four way battle, her male colleagues and championship leader Stefano Casalotti.
It’s not publicly or officially known yet which team and manufacturer Paola will be entering WSS on, but check back here, as Paola will inform us once all finalised.
Very exciting— for the talented Italian and we all look forward to cheering her on throughout the 2010 season!
