How to Celebrate International Female Ride Day

These are exciting times for women riders! Here you’ll find all the tips on how to celebrate International Female Ride Day® (IFRD) ! You’ll find suggestions to get your ride, and yourself ready for IFRD and join with women around the world! IFRD continues to expand the numbers of women who ride and enjoy motorsports while encouraging others to take up the activity. By participating,  you keep the momentum going!

A BOOST FOR WOMEN RIDERS NEEDED

IFRD came at a time when a boost for women interested in motorcycling was needed. It was the time to elevate the enjoyment for women riding motorcycles to the next level. International Female Ride Day® continues to achieve respect and acknowledgement the world over while breaking down barriers for women. Equally, IFRD creates and renews friendships across every culture, it’s borders worldwide for women in motorsport. It is now referred to as a movement for women riders. IFRD is fun, all embracing and continues to keep the woman motorcycle enthusiast’s voice present and strong!

To help you join in on this globally phenomenal day for women, and to make the most of your own local, regional or solo ride on International Female Ride Day®, use the tips below.

Starting off, it is important to know that the only activity to being part of IFRD is to  – JUST RIDE. This is the IFRD call-to-action and credo sitting at the soul of IFRD. Created by expert motorcyclist and woman rider advocate, Vicki Gray it means, get out there and show your beautiful, unique self! And whether that’s on a dirt bike, a cruiser, a sport bike, trike or scooter – all forms, all brands – just ride! The action is a global ride in synchronicity with women motorcyclists in over +120 countries!

How To Celebrate International Female Ride Day - MOTORESS
CELEBRATE the social, economic, and cultural motorsport achievements of women riders.

In addition to joining in with women around the world, remember it is you that is an important role model inspiring other women on IFRD!
By being visible, you in your own unique way, inspire others and set an example of the diversity, the fun, and the penchant women share through this activity – motorcycling and motorsports

  • CELEBRATE the social, economic, and cultural motorsport achievements of women riders. Visibility and awareness help drive positive change for women, no matter the activity.
  • DECLARE with passion how you, as an person or organisation help “ride forward” motorcycling for women. This “just ride” purposeful action can accelerate gender parity and alter perception; preconceived judgements or notions.

IFRD LET’S GET READY!

PRE IFRD BIKE PREP AND MAINTENANCE

  1. READY YOUR RIDE. Plan to prepare your ride in advance. For many riders, this is the first ride of the new riding season. Begin your preparations at least 10 days before IFRD. This will allow time if you need parts etc. Do a pre-ride inspection, check your tires, liquids (oil, fuel, brake fluid, etc.). At least this way you’ll know your motorcycle won’t be the reason keeping you from participating.
  2. READY YOUR GEAR. Double check that your gloves, helmet, jacket and boots are in good shape. And don’t forget rain gear an essential to every rider’s wardrobe. In many parts of the world it’s springtime which often means, unpredictable weather and showers. But this is not a reason to stop you from participating so be prepared. Some of the best experienced women have shared with us over the years have been during rainy IFRD days.
  3. RIDE REFRESHER. If this is your first ride of the season, be sure to get a few kilometres in to “air out the cobwebs” so to speak. Take your bike to a parking lot (vacant open space)  and go through a few exercises to refresh your skills. Practise a straight line emergency stop, a swerve and then practise those slow speed controls. This article on “essentials skills” will help.

DOWNLOAD & DISPLAY THE IFRD ICON

  2. Display IFRD logo on your website, Facebook page or in your flyer.
  3. Wear an awesome IFRD “Just Ride!” collectible t-shirt on IFRD!
  4. Print out the *windscreen flyer to display on your motorcycle.

*Windscreen flyer available for download and printing 10 days before every IFRD date.

PLAN YOUR “JUST RIDE!”

Whether you decided to ride solo, with friends or in a group, it does help to have a ride plan.

SOLO RIDE TIPS FOR IFRD

The IFRD call to action is “Just ride!” meaning, you can have a lot of fun and join in even if riding solo!

Try these actions on your solo IFRD ride day:

  • Ride To Your Local Dealership:  There’s usually something going on for IFRD. Or ride to a dealership hosting an IFRD event.
  • Ride To A Local Landmark or Monument to snap your IFRD photo. These are very popular as women share their particular cultural take and characteristics of the day.
  • Head Out On A Weekend Ride with an overnight stay along the way.
  • Cruise Around Your City, Town or Village. There’s no limit to your ride. You might enjoy an hour, a day, afternoon or evening. It’s up to you but of course, JUST RIDE!
  • Sign Up For A Track Day at your local circuit. Nothing more fun that getting out there and adding some “female and fast” to any track day session!
  • Book An Off-Road or Adventure Experience. Taking an off-road course is a great way to celebrate motorsports and powersports – another style to “JUST RIDE!”

HOST A RIDE, MEET-UP, OR EVENT

How To Celebrate International Female Ride Day

Meet Up Ride with Friends. This can be with a few of your rider friends. Meet up, take a ride and then end the day with a photo and dinner.

Bring Something of Meaning Into Your Ride Plan. Some women have implemented traditions or themes within their groups each year. The women in Hungary always ride with pink balloons on their bikes. Other women have a dress code (colours) and others even purple “tutus”!

Coordinate An IFRD Event. This can be done via a venue of your choice or in collaboration with a dealership. Think about inviting speakers, motorsport experts, etc. Include industry supporters who can also make gear or event donations for giveaways.

Social share your support by posting on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

Promote your ride via social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) using the yearly hashtags:  #internationalfemalerideday #IFRD  #focusfemaleforward

Use our IFRD Facebook profile filter (to be announced) to proudly display your involvement with women riders the world over!

ENTER THE IFRD PHOTO SWEEPSTAKES

✓  Upload and share your engaging ride day images, videos or articles that show the success of your JUST RIDE day.

✓  Upload your awesome IFRD capture to the photo sweepstakes (details announced in April) . Share within the Facebook group and your own page.

SPREAD THE IFRD WORD

How To Celebrate International Female Ride Day

  • CAMPAIGN: Run your own IFRD Just Ride! Campaign and engage local papers, TV, radio.
  • SHARE THE LOGO: Post the IFRD icon and logo on the office, school or workplace events bulletin board.
  • INSPIRE THE YOUNG: Offer to visit a public school or young girls club on your bike during IFRD to inspire a change of perception for young girls.
  • CALL FOR ACTION: Ask friends, colleagues and your favourite motorcycle local businesses what they’re doing to help shed a light on motorcycling for women.
  • VISIT A WOMEN’S CRISIS CENTRE: Arrange a visit to a women’s crisis centre to inspire and be a role model to women less fortunate. Bring along some donations (clothing, makeup, toys, etc.)

There’s no limit to how you join in with women around the world on this one synchronized, empowering ride day. Let your imagination fly – “JUST RIDE!”

REMEMBER, NO MATTER WHERE OR HOW YOU RIDE, SAFETY FIRST

  • Always ride your own ride.
  • Never push your limits, or be intimated to do so.
  • Ride sober.
  • If a road, or a ride situation (including the group you’re riding with) doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and leave. This goes equally for your mood, or physical / mental state. If you’re not feeling like yourself, or something’s a little off – park your motorcycle until you feel better. And if needed, leave your ride, call a friend or an Uber. You can pick up your motorcycle or ride the next day. Being safe is always the better decision.

Hi Vicki, hi all female riders, friends,

THIS is the 10th edition of the south-west German IFRD!

It started with 12 female participants, bmw test rides and a female rock band in 2013. Until today, our community has been growing and almost all of us know each other and meet up a couple of times during the year for a tour weekend or even bike holidays.

Some of the ladies and girls arrived yesterday evening. They are taking their own touristic tour around the region today.

This evening we will have a welcome and dinner at the hotel in St. Ingbert, Germany, together with all who have travelled to participate tomorrow.

Almost 60 ladies will be ready for take-off tomorrow after breakfast, guided by 7 ladies, in groups from fast to slow.
We will be surrounding Saarland during the day (about 250 km) and get back to the hotel for the evening get-together.
We’ll have a special guest from an organization which promotes the construction of underride protection for crash barriers.

We are so excited to see them all in one place. The organization of this has carried us through dark winter times. And now we can’t wait for it to begin!!

We wish you all a safe ride, hope you enjoy the day wherever you are!

All the best

Frauke, Ute, Pia, Christiane, Sylvi, Anne
and Annika

Hi all! 🙂❤️
We will be riding again in Germany, south-western part.
We are a community of more than 40 ladies who first met on IFRD 2013 and from then on grew and grew and some of us made really good friends within the community. We meet a few times a year, not only making plans for the next IFRD, but also planning holidays, such as touring to France or Italy and enjoying some time on wheels together with some really great woman bikers.
The community is growing and most of the girls who took part the first time in 2013 will come and join every year.
We ride in different groups with 5 or 6 well prepared tour guides (cruiser, medium or faster speed) and meet the other groups for the breaks.
Looking forward to a great event.
This time the tour guides will lead us to the Nürburgring race track to have a look what is happening at “the green hell” from outside.

Just ride,
Ladies, ride and enjoy!!
All the best and ride safely
Annika
in the name of all the female riders from Saarbrücken, Karlsruhe and the Eifel region.
