Silverstone race track in England is hosting its first ever women-only Bike Track Day session will be offered at the Northamptonshire Circuit on Thursday 03 October. There will be tips and instruction from British motorcycle racer Maria Costello MBE. Silverstone Track Day for women intends to provide opportunity for women motorcycle riders to learn new riding skills under the coaching of Bike Track Day expert coaches and with special assistance of Maria Costello.
Maria is the first woman to ever have achieved a podium at the famed Isle of Man motorcycle races and will be a guest instructor.
The sessions are aimed at female riders of all levels of experience inviting them to join in with other women to enjoy advancing their skills. Running out of The Wing Pits and Paddock, the day will provide participants the chance to ride in the tyre tracks of MotoGP World Superbike and British Superbike legends, and benefit from plenty of track time and one-to-one instruction from Maria.
In addition to the women’s-only group, there are two other riding groups available on the day, open to men and women.
-
Street Sport #1 (£129 per person) is ideal for first-time track riders, or for those with limited experience
-
Street Sport #2 (£129 per person) is aimed at more experienced road or track riders who prefer to take their fun seriously, prepare their machinery properly and want room on the track to hone their skills
-
Women-only group (£129 per person) is aimed at female riders of all abilities, who want to enjoy their motorcycle under the tutelage of Maria Costello.
Costello, who was awarded an MBE for services to motorcycling in 2009, has a long list of accomplishments on two wheels, achieving a Guinness World Record in 2004 by becoming the fastest woman to lap the Isle of Man TT course, at an average speed of 114.73 mph. She also made history at the 2005 Manx Grand Prix when she took third place in the Ultra Lightweight category, becoming the first ever woman to take a podium finish in either a TT or Manx GP.
“Silverstone is my local track and I’m really looking forward to meeting women who want to build their riding skills and ultimately have a great day out, both on and off the circuit”, comments Maria.
Further to the lengthy on track action, attendees will also enjoy expert tuition, a £10 food voucher to exchange in the Media Café, all-day refreshments in the garage areas and optional tours of The Wing complex. Mechanic, suspension and tyre services, as well as bike and gear hire will also be available on the day from IDP Moto.
