Last Update: 21 March 2026

In 2026, International Female Ride Day® (IFRD) reaches a milestone: two decades of women showing up, rolling out, and being counted — together. What began in 2007 as a simple, powerful idea has become a globally synchronised ride day held on the first Saturday in May.
That’s exactly why the 20th-edition theme is Women Accelerate — 20 Years Strong —and why for 2026 we’re rallying around #IFRDWomenAccelerate.
Why “Women Accelerate”
In motorcycling and powersports, acceleration is not just speed. It’s response. Momentum. Commitment. It’s the moment you roll on and move forward — on your terms. That’s what women riders accelerate means: women creating forward motion in our sport, our culture, and our community.
Over the last two decades, women haven’t just “joined” motorcycling and motorsports — they’ve helped move it. The evidence is visible in participation trends: in the U.S., women have grown to a meaningful share of motorcycle owners, with widely cited industry *survey findings showing women around 19% of motorcycle owners (and higher proportions among younger generations).
“Are women really into this?” to “Women are already here — and the industry needs to serve them, represent them, and respect them.”
That growth doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when women are seen riding, racing, exploring, commuting, training, leading groups, wrenching, and showing up as experts —again and again — until the culture has no choice but to make room.
Why Visibility Matters (And Why IFRD Has Always Been About it)
IFRD has always been more than a date on a calendar. It is a visibility moment — a day that makes a statement: women ride, women belong, women are part of the present and future of this industry.
Major powersports brands describe IFRD as a “movement,” spotlighting women riders across multiple segments of powersports and encouraging participation and inclusion. That language matters: it reflects how far the conversation has come — from “Are women really into this?” to “Women are already here — and the industry needs to serve them, represent them, and respect them.” – says Vicki Gray Founder
Progress Beyond The Street: Motorsport & Powersports Pathways Are Expanding
The wider motorsport and powersports world has also been building more structure around women’s participation — initiatives designed to create opportunity, improve access, and increase representation.
These developments are part of a broader shift: more pathways, more visibility, more investment—because the demand is real, and because women have made it impossible to ignore.
Why This Theme Now
Women Accelerate — 20 Years Strong is a celebration of what has moved forward because women showed up — and a clear signal that we’re not easing off the throttle.
We accelerate every time we:
- ride publicly and proudly — solo or in groups
- bring a new rider into the fold
- share our stories and skills (and refuse to shrink)
- support women in every lane: road, track, trail, commute, touring, off-road, performance
- insist on fair portrayal, real inclusion, and equal opportunity
Twenty years in, the message is sharp and simple: IFRD has been a major force — powered by women who showed up and kept showing up. Women are reshaping motorcycling and motorsport culture, and we’re not done yet. The momentum keeps building.
