A few weeks ago, REVS Toronto — the downtown Ducati dealership — hosted a fashion night and 2008 Ducati model unveiling for its clientele, media, and devoted Ducatisti. This event was part of Ducati North America’s synchronised fashion events. I happily accepted the invitation and was looking forward to an evening surrounded by fellow motorcycle passionati. The aim was to soak up Ducati’s latest riding gear and get up close to the 2008 lineup. The star attraction was the Ducati Desmosedici RR.
First Close-Up: Meeting the Ducati Desmosedici RR
The event did not disappoint. It was fantastic to reconnect with other riders and feel that shared buzz in the room. One of the highlights was a staged photo shoot with the Desmosedici RR. Of course, none of us hesitated to step in front of the camera — I’ve never exactly been camera shy. This particular Desmosedici RR wasn’t for sale. It was on display for one night only before the keys were handed to its new owner, a very fortunate local Canadian doctor. He had added it to his collection and was there to enjoy the moment.
When the Ducati Desmosedici Came to Life
Earlier in the evening, before the photo session, the doctor (whose name I promptly forgot) fired up the bike. He treated us all to a live soundtrack of pure power. The sound was exhilarating. There’s truly nothing as seductive as the rumble from this MotoGP-derived race replica. The double L-twin, four-cylinder engine is capable of 322 km/h (200 mph). It sent a sharp, resonant vibration straight through the heart and soul of every Ducatisti in the room. It was heaven. Now, if only I could ride it.

Hi Vicki!
I’m from Italy, Ducati’s homeland, and I’m a Desmosedici RR fan, of course. I live next to a motorbike clothes shop; they have a Desmosedici RR on display, together with jackets, gloves and helmets. Not a single day passes without a brief visit to see the MotoGP winner…it’s a dream.
Very nice blog. Greetings from Florence!
