Toronto Firefighter Calendar Men Join MOTORESS for Women & Motorcycling Fun

The famed Toronto Firefighter Calendar men were a huge hit with women motorcyclists at the December 2007 Toronto Motorcycle Show’s Ladies’ Night — a theme I originally brought to the show creators and owners at MCC  (now Moto Canada), and one that’s still respected in their programming to this day. The firefighters were invited as special guests and featured exclusively at the MOTORESS stand.

When I was first planning the show, I hoped I might entice a couple of Toronto’s finest to help heat up Ladies’ Night. To my surprise, six of the fellas were available. Clearly, the combination of motorcycles and women riders was a pretty irresistible draw — and as you might have guessed, they were a BIG hit!

Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation representative Sandra was also in attendance and absolutely thrilled with the results: by the end of the night, all but three of the Toronto Firefighter Calendars had sold — a near sell-out!  Every calendar supports the FireFighters Cancer Research Fund at Princess Margaret Hospital, so a huge thank-you to all the women who took one home. (Not much arm-twisting required—the calendar is pretty much flame-inducing eye candy.)

Each calendar was personally autographed by every firefighter on hand — Ray, Kalman, Matt, Emile, Michael, and Danny — making each one a little collector’s piece. I bought one in support as well. My favourite inscription was from Michael, Mr. “March,” who wrote “Let’s get together—call me” and then added his number: 911 (our Canadian emergency number). These guys are pretty slick. I still wonder how many women have jokingly called 911 hoping to reach their “special” firefighter!

And naturally, I couldn’t help but enjoy the “uplifting pleasure” these fearless firefighters brought to the show—and I made sure to snag my own photo souvenir. Let’s just say it was the perfect pick-me-up after a 12-hour trade show day, if you know what I mean.
