WHEELS OF CHANGE: Building a Stronger Community of Women Riders
For nearly two decades, IFRD has shone a spotlight on women riders, powersports enthusiasts, and female motorsports competitors. While female rider-ship has doubled in the past decade, women still only make up approximately 21-24 percent of all motorcycle owners — a far cry from representing half of the motorsports population. The momentum generated by this special day remains crucial in “riding forward” continued progress and shaping a brighter future for women in motorsports and powersports.
Keeping The Momentum At Full Throttle
From a world economic view, findings from the recent World Economic Forum, concludes in 2024, the global gender gap stands at 68.5% closed across 146 countries. Compared to last year’s constant sample, progress has inched forward by just +0.1 percentage points to 68.6%. The same marginal improvement is seen in the 101 countries tracked since 2006. This stagnation slows the path to parity, with current data projecting 134 years—five generations beyond the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target — to achieve full equality.
