Singaporean and woman motorcycle rider, Vaune Phan, set off on her Suzuki DR250 motorcycle for Mt. Everest  at the crack of dawn on 5 June. Her solo ride from her home in Singapore to the Himalayas Region in Tibet aims to raise funds and awareness for the Singapore Disability Sports Council. She will be riding across six countries over the course of a month. Her ride will bring her through Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, China and Tibet before reaching the Everest base camp.

The 27-year-old motorcycle rider headed out on her equipped Suzuki DR200 for the gruelling journey. Funds she is raising will provide the disabled with opportunities to train, participate and excel in sports for local, regional and international competitions. It will assist in enhancing the lifestyles of the disabled and integrate them into the community through recreational sports and activities.

“Since becoming a rider, I have realised that life is very vulnerable. I know of people who got into accidents and became disabled,” Vaune said.

Along the way, she expects to be assisted by Singapore’s embassies in each country and have to escort by a tour guide in China.  She will also be meeting staff members from her sponsors in the motoring industry stationed in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur as she passes through.

Her ride plan has her riding each day for eight hour segments and documenting her adventure with a video blog.

If you wish to donate, you can do so through the GiveAsia page set up by Vaune Phan. And of course Vaune will make sure to avoid areas hit by the Nepal earthquakes.

Visit her Facebook page to follow her ride.
