Exciting news for women’s motorsport in Italy for 2023! A new Italian road racing series for women will occur during 2023. Introduced and carried out by the Italian Motorcycle Federation (IMF) the Italian Women’s Speed Championship – il “Campionato Italiano Velocità Femminile” (CIV). This is a 300cc class where participants will battle it out over six races over the season.

This continues as an important step that follows a work carried out for years to promote and implement women’s motorcycling testified by the activities of the IMF Women’s Commission. This also aligns with activities of the Womens’ European Cup (WEC) – of which I was one of the initial competitors! Like many other women who race, it was also my challenge like that of others where budgetary restraints prevented most of us from taking part in the European Championship fully. For this reason, the Federation launched the CIV championship which will only be held in Italy allowing more accessible costs for women.
This continues as an important step that follows a work carried out for years to promote and implement women’s motorcycling.
Established Italian women riders will be able to choose between the National or the European Championship, while younger women racers, and others who cannot afford the costs of travel abroad, will be able to compete in the six rounds on the calendar. All these rounds are in Italy, on the national territory, three of which will run alongside WEC scheduled races. In practice, therefore, those who register for the first edition of the women’s CIV will still be able to compare themselves with the WEC riders.
The first edition of the Women’s CIV will be divided into six rounds, three in the context of the CIV Junior and three in the CIV . The latter in conjunction with and within the same starting grid as the Women’s European Championship.
