If you’re like most motorcycle riders, your closet is probably overflowing with gear. A jacket for spring, a lighter one for summer, multi-layer textiles for in-between seasons, plus a rain suit or two. Getting ready for a ride — short or long — often means juggling a pile of zips, liners, and layers. But what if you could rely on just one suit to keep you protected and comfortable in every season? That’s exactly the promise of the BMW StreetGuard 3 women’s (or men’s) riding suit: one suit, all weather, all in one.
For the past two years I’ve put the BMW StreetGuard 3 women’s suit through some of the most extreme 24-hour weather swings you can imagine. On Canada’s high Rocky Mountain roads around Banff, Alberta, I rode in July along snow-lined shoulders and biting cold, then dropped into lowlands with typical summer warmth and hot sun. I’ve ridden it through the Austrian Alps where balmy base temperatures quickly gave way to damp, chilling conditions at altitude. The real test, however, was a thirteen-hour ride from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, to München, Germany, where it poured with rain for a solid three hours while I cruised at an average 170 km/h on the famed German autobahns. I arrived not only safe, but completely dry — and the best part was that all I needed to pack was one suit!

BMW first introduced the StreetGuard 2 suit in 2006 as the successor to the TourGuard jacket and StreetGuard pants. In 2009, the StreetGuard 3 arrived, taking the concept further with more advanced materials, upgraded impact protection, and refined comfort features. Experiencing the StreetGuard 3 in real-world conditions quickly confirms that BMW Motorrad has been well ahead of the curve in all-weather, climate-control riding gear.
StreetGuard 3 Coldblack Technology

As someone who prefers black motorcycle gear, the first feature that truly surprised me was the suit’s Coldblack technology. It reflects up to 80 percent of sunlight from the black outer fabric, which means that even in strong sunshine the suit stays noticeably cooler for longer, boosting overall comfort. At the same time, your body is better protected from heat and UV radiation. BMW achieves this through its Black Keproshield™ and Dynatec™ outer materials, which are engineered to incorporate this reflective technology.
High-Strength, Durable Shell
The outer Keproshield™ material, developed for BMW Motorrad by Schoeller®, is a high-strength composite fabric that incorporates Kevlar along with cotton and polyamide fibres. This exclusive blend significantly increases durability and resistance to wear. Compared with its predecessor, the StreetGuard 3’s shell improves performance by around 20% in critical areas such as abrasion, tear, impact, and frictional heat resistance.
Living, Breathing Weather Protection!

In the StreetGuard 3, the outer shell is directly bonded to a wind- and waterproof “c_change™” climate membrane, making the suit fully waterproof. Inspired by the way a pine cone opens and closes in response to temperature, the membrane “opens” in warmth to increase breathability and moisture transfer, then “closes” in colder conditions to retain heat. This adaptive air permeability lets the suit respond both to the outside climate and your body temperature, helping maintain a comfortable core temperature in almost any weather. The membrane is also elastic, allowing BMW to create a fully flexible outer shell that moves with you and further enhances comfort on the bike.
Rider-Focused Comfort Details
The jacket uses a single riri® storm front zip that effectively seals out wind, water, and even UV without the bulky multi-layer front plackets many other brands rely on. The same water-resistant riri® AQUAzip zippers are used on the exterior pockets, keeping small essentials dry and secure.
There’s no need for a separate neck warmer or scarf, either. The detachable storm collar, lined and edged with soft leather, feels silky against the skin with no scratchy, abrasive edges — a rare pleasure in motorcycle gear and one of my favourite features!
The sleeves fasten securely for a waterproof transition to your gloves. A soft Lycra inner wrist cuff creates a smooth, draft-free bridge between glove and sleeve, adding both comfort and warmth. When conditions turn truly frosty, the removable high-quality 3M Thinsulate liner provides excellent insulation, while a zip-in high waistband lined with fleece keeps cold air from sneaking in. Soft-shell fabric inside the pockets and cuffs adds another layer of comfort. The exterior may look technical and rugged, but against the skin this suit is genuinely soft and easy to wear. The trousers also zip to the jacket in two different lengths, giving flexibility in fit.
A radiation-resistant, waterproof mobile phone pocket and two additional waterproof inner pockets in the jacket round out the design, highlighting just how much smart thinking has gone into the details.
Impact Protection and Rider Visibility

The StreetGuard 3 comes equipped with BMW’s removable NP protectors at the back, shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees. The knee armour can be adjusted to three different height positions for a precise, comfortable fit. These protectors offer excellent shock-absorbing performance, and there’s even an optional coccyx (tailbone) protector that can be added for extra coverage.
To help keep you visible in traffic and low light, reflective fabric is integrated on the front and back of the jacket, as well as along the sides of the trouser legs. This all-round visibility is a big plus for everyday road riding and long-distance touring alike.
Sizing & Colour Options
The BMW Motorrad StreetGuard 3 women’s suit is available in classic black or a Black/Grey/Orange combination for the jacket, with the trousers offered in black only. Jacket and pants are sold separately, allowing you to mix sizes for the best possible fit.
BMW offers an impressive range of sizing to accommodate different body types:
- Regular: 36–46 (EU) / 4–16 (US)
- Petite: 18–22 (EU) / 6P–14P (US)
- Long: 72–88 (EU) / 6L–14L (US)
With this breadth of options, most riders will be able to dial in a tailored, confidence-inspiring fit.
Subtle Branding – Wear It on Any Bike

Another smart feature of the StreetGuard 3 is its discreet branding. There are no bold BMW logos splashed across the jacket or trousers, which means you can comfortably wear it on your Harley-Davidson, Ducati, or any other brand without feeling like a rolling advertisement. The only visible branding is a small metal BMW badge just below the waistband of the pants — perfect if you appreciate the premium pedigree, but subtle enough to blend into any moto lifestyle.
Price & Value
The StreetGuard 3 is undeniably an investment piece—but one that can replace a wardrobe full of seasonal gear. At the time of this review, the Canadian MSRP was approximately CAD $1,021.50 for the jacket and CAD $799.50 for the pants. When you weigh that against the technology, comfort, and genuine four-season performance, it truly becomes a case of getting what you pay for — and in this instance, getting even more.
Final Verdict: One Suit, Four Seasons
After two full seasons and thousands of kilometres in the BMW StreetGuard 3 women’s suit, I can confidently say I’ve tested it in just about every condition imaginable — thankfully, everything except a crash, though it’s clearly built to protect. It’s incredibly comfortable (truly, you could sleep in it), and the technology woven into this gear is, as far as I’m aware, among the most advanced available to today’s street rider. Inside and out, in every season, it performs, adapts, and holds its own. For riders who want one suit to do it all —and do it for years —the StreetGuard 3 is a smart, long-term investment for sure!
Fit Tweaks & Personal Wishes
Aside from a little dampness in the outer jacket pockets after that three-hour rain pounding on the autobahn, my only real suggestion is a style refinement. Personally, I’d love a more tailored, feminine line to the jacket — particularly through the waist. At times I felt a bit boxy, almost boyish, which may also be due to the stiffness of the technical fabric. I have no issue with the high-tech materials themselves, but a simple external waist adjuster strap could gently cinch the jacket in and give the silhouette a more flattering shape.
My sincere thanks to BMW Motorrad Canada: during four straight weeks of riding in Europe, I travelled with an incredible sense of security. I stayed perfectly comfortable — totally dry in the rain, cool in high temperatures, and warm when it turned cold. And an unexpected bonus: thanks to travelling with just one suit, I had much more room in my panniers for hair styling tools and plenty of Salzburg’s delicious Mozartbonbon. !!
